Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artist gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was awarded a gold medal in the team event, making her and her teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans with back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. Raisman received silver medals for the individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. She is also the two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five-time medalist at national championships all around (silver in 2016 and silver in 2011, 2012 (2012), and in 2013 and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber who was an ex-high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in being able not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community all over the world. Raisman began gymnastics at eighteen months. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was coached by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012. She completed her senior year online and was working towards the Olympics.
